Louise Mrázková (b.2001) is a Czech-Belgian artist based in Antwerp, working in painting and related media. Her practice explores the tension between historical and contemporary image traditions, with attention to process and the visible traces of making.
The exhibition routes/returns brings together paintings, photography and archival material around the idea of movement and the search for a sense of home while in being on the move. Starting from the navigation of pigeons and their ability to always return home, the artist develops a sensitivity to the small, often unnoticed details of everyday life. This begins with observing the pigeon moving through the bustle of the city. From this, the artist created the alter ego as a pigeon fancier (‘pigeon milker’), an appropriation of experiences from a disappearing Flemish tradition.
The exhibition also includes work from tales from the tourbus, based on experiences within the underground music circuit. By travelling with the band De Vlaamse Primitieven, co-organising DIY concerts and engaging in collective life on the road, she translates direct experiences of movement and community into image.
Within the exhibition, ‘routes’ refers to the layered convergence of experiences and movements both personal and social, intimate and superficial, introverted and extraverted. ‘returns’ points to the ongoing renegotiation of what can be considered home.

Louise Mrázková (°2001) is een Tsjecho-Belgische kunstenaar gevestigd in Antwerpen, werkzaam binnen de schilderkunst en verwante media. Haar praktijk onderzoekt de spanning tussen historische en hedendaagse beeldtradities met aandacht voor proces, vervorming en de zichtbare sporen van het maken.
De tentoonstelling routes/returns brengt schilderijen, fotografie en archiefmateriaal samen rond het idee van beweging, terugkeer en het zoeken naar een thuis onderweg. Vertrekkend vanuit de navigatie van duiven en hun vermogen om steeds naar huis terug te keren, ontwikkelt de kunstenaar een gevoeligheid voor de kleine onopgemerkte details van het dagelijkse leven. Dit begint bij het kijken naar de duif die zich door de stedelijke drukte beweegt. Vanuit dit vertrekpunt creëert zij een alter ego als duivenmelker; een toe-eigening op ervaringen van een verdwijnende Vlaamse traditie.
Daarnaast bevat de tentoonstelling werk uit tales from the tourbus, gebaseerd op ervaringen binnen het underground muziekcircuit. Door mee te reizen met de band De Vlaamse Primitieven, het mede organiseren van DIY-concerten en het collectieve leven onderweg, vertaalt ze directe ervaringen van beweging en gemeenschap naar beeld.
Binnen de tentoonstelling verwijst routes naar de gelaagde samenkomst van ervaringen en verplaatsingen, zowel persoonlijk als sociaal, intiem als oppervlakkig, introvert als extravert. Returns duidt op de voortdurende heronderhandeling van wat als thuis kan worden beschouwd.
